Our journey begins
Our journey to take on the role as foster parents started in June 2011, after speaking to our case worker for adoption. We had been going through the over seas adoption process for several years, all the while being reminded of the need of foster carers in our state.We had been invited to submit our dossier to the Thailand government along with a $4000 donation to the orphanage, we were also told that there were no guarantees our dossier would be looked at before a 3 year period was up, and after that point could be rejected.
We were also invited to sign a waiver which meant we completely understood that our application could be rejected due to my previous post natal depression after the birth of our daughter on 2005. In other words, there were no guarantees.
It didn't take long to decide to go down the path of fostering instead of OS adoption. We always knew we wanted to help children in need, we just didn't know in what capacity. After doing more research on becoming a foster carer and speaking to several agencies, we were sure we were making the right decision. The figures where shocking, the amount of young children living in hotels and emergency care is devastating.
We have completed all the training requirements and first aid certificate. Our house has been checked in terms of safety regulations and ready to go...we've had medical checks, psychiatric assessment's and been checked out financially. We've had police checks, and extended family members have been police checked.... but still we wait.
Just a thought though, isn't it funny how much training you are required to do to become a foster carer, yet anyone can have a baby, abuse, neglect and basically destroy it.

Let's get this party started.
Who doesn't love a good cup cake! I'm doing a cup cake decorating coarse next week, so looking forward to it. I doubt mine will ever look as good as Martha's!
